No IT Headaches

We handle installs, updates, and server maintenance, so your team can focus on returns, not troubleshooting.

The Basics

What is Lacerte hosting?

Lacerte hosting means running your licensed copy of Intuit Lacerte on a secure, remote Windows server instead of a local desktop or in-office server. Cloud Innovics installs Lacerte on enterprise-grade infrastructure and gives your firm remote desktop access to it — so the software looks and behaves exactly like the desktop version you already know, just reachable from anywhere with an internet connection.

This is different from a browser-based tax product: with Lacerte hosting you get the full, unmodified Lacerte application, including every feature, form, and add-on your firm relies on, without the limits of a copy tied to one machine.

For CPA firms and tax preparers, that means staff can log in to the same Lacerte environment from the office, a home workstation, or a client site, work on returns as a team without file-locking conflicts, and know data is backed up daily behind enterprise security — all without maintaining an in-house server.

Security & Compliance

Certifications your compliance team will recognize

Beyond the encryption and MFA built into every plan, our infrastructure holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification directly. The facilities our infrastructure runs in separately maintain the certifications below at the facility level.

SOC 2 TYPE 2

Independently audited security controls

ISO 27001

Information security management (facility level)

HIPAA-READY

Safeguards for sensitive client records (facility level)

PCI DSS

Payment data handling standards (facility level)

Type 2 service organization controls (facility level)

Compliance

What the FTC Safeguards Rule and IRS Pub 4557 actually require

The FTC Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314) requires every tax preparer to maintain a Written Information Security Plan (WISP) with specific technical safeguards, not just “reasonable” security in the abstract. IRS Publication 4557 lays out the same expectation from the IRS side, as part of the Security Six preparers are required to implement. Neither document tells you exactly how to satisfy them — that’s usually where firms get stuck.

What examiners actually check

✓Encryption of client data at rest and in transit
✓Multi-factor authentication on every account with access to client data
✓Documented access controls — who can reach client data, and why
✓A written incident response plan, not just a mental one
✓Due diligence documentation on any vendor that touches client data

Where this usually breaks down

Most small and mid-size firms don’t fail an audit because they’re careless — they fail because Lacerte runs on a front-desk PC or an aging in-office server with no documentation trail. There’s no audit log, no written encryption standard, and no answer to “who else has access to this machine.” None of that is a software problem; it’s an infrastructure problem.

Hosting doesn’t replace your WISP — you still need one — but it gives you something concrete to reference in it. A SOC 2 Type 2 report, which Cloud Innovics holds directly, is documentation you can hand to an examiner or a client, instead of trying to describe the security posture of a physical office PC after the fact. Our infrastructure also runs in data-center facilities that maintain further certifications, such as ISO 27001.

A concrete example: an examiner reviewing your WISP might ask who has admin access to the machine storing client returns, and when that access list was last reviewed. On a hosted environment, that’s a logged, auditable answer in one sentence. On a shared office PC, it usually isn’t an answer at all — it’s a guess.

Data Centers

Secure server locations, close to you

Our data centres sit in low-risk zones shielded from natural disasters, with enterprise power, cooling, and network redundancy — positioned to keep latency low no matter where your team logs in from.

Hosting vs. Local Install

Lacerte Hosting vs. Running Lacerte Locally

Hosting keeps the same Lacerte license and interface your firm already uses and moves where it physically runs. Here’s how that compares to an in-office install.

Hosted LacerteInstalled Locally
Multi-preparer accessSame instance, from any device or locationTied to whichever workstation has it installed
HardwareRuns on our managed servers — nothing to buyRequires a dedicated in-office machine or server
Maintenance & updatesHandled for you, including backups and monitoringFalls on your firm’s own IT time
Adding seasonal preparersAdd a user instantly, scale back after the deadlineLimited by available workstations and licenses
Disaster recoveryAutomated, redundant backups, off your premisesDepends entirely on your own backup discipline

Buyer’s Guide

7 questions to ask before you host Lacerte anywhere

Every hosting provider’s homepage looks reassuring. These are the questions that actually separate a real setup from a reseller with a website.

1. Are they independently audited, or just claiming “bank-level security”?Ask for the actual certification names — SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 — not marketing language. A provider that can’t name a specific audit standard usually hasn’t had one.
2. Do you keep your own Lacerte license, or are you locked into theirs? Some hosts bundle software into their pricing in a way that makes switching providers later expensive or impossible. Confirm you’re bringing your own license and can take it elsewhere.
3. Is infrastructure sized for your busiest week, or your average one?A server that’s fine in June and crawls in the last two weeks of filing season was provisioned for the wrong week. Ask directly how they handle peak concurrent load.
4. Is migration actually free, or is that an introductory offer?Get it in writing whether free migration applies every time you need it — including if you ever move providers again — not just on day one.
5. Can you reach a person during filing season, or just a ticket queue?Ask what average response time looks like in March specifically, not year-round. Support quality often changes when a provider is at capacity.
6. Where is your data physically hosted, and is there redundancy?A single data center with no failover site is a single point of failure. Ask for named locations, not just “the cloud.”
7. Can you scale users up and down, or are you locked into an annual seat count?Tax practices are seasonal. A provider that only sells annual per-seat contracts is pricing for their convenience, not your filing calendar.

Run through these seven with any provider you’re evaluating, including us — the answers should hold up whether it’s January or June, not just during the sales call.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Lacerte hosting

Is this an official Intuit-hosted version of Lacerte?+
No. Cloud Innovics is an independent, Intuit Authorized Commercial Host. We install your own licensed copy of Lacerte on our secure servers — you keep your existing Intuit licence and account.
Can Lacerte handle peak tax season traffic on your servers?+
Yes. Our enterprise SSD servers are sized for multi-user concurrency, so performance stays fast even when your whole team is filing returns during peak weeks.
Will you migrate my existing client files and prior-year data?+
Yes. Our team handles free migration of your Lacerte installation, client files, and settings, including prior-year data carryforward, with zero data loss.
Can I still integrate Lacerte with QuickBooks?+
Yes. QuickBooks integration, including exporting Lacerte billing data, works the same as it does on a local desktop install.
Can I run Lacerte alongside other tax or accounting software?+
Yes. Many firms host Lacerte alongside QuickBooks, ATX, Drake, or ProSeries in the same managed environment, so client data moves between systems without extra exporting.
What certifications does your hosting infrastructure hold?+
SOC 2 Type 2 directly. ISO 27001, HIPAA-ready standards, PCI DSS, and SSAE 18 Type 2 (SOC 1) apply at the facility level where our infrastructure runs. See our full data center & infrastructure details →
Do you support dual or multi-monitor setups?+
Yes. Dual and multi-monitor configurations are fully supported for side-by-side data entry and document review.
Is my client data secure?+
Yes. We use 256-bit SSL encryption, multi-factor authentication, enterprise firewalls, and daily automated backups to protect sensitive client tax data.
How quickly can my firm get started?+
Most accounts are set up and ready within 24 to 48 hours of your free consultation, so you are not left waiting during filing season.
Is there a long-term contract?+
No long-term contracts required. Start with a free 7-day trial and cancel anytime.
Where are your data centers located?+
Phoenix, Arizona is our primary facility, with redundancy sites in Ashburn, Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia.
Can I print directly from hosted Lacerte to my office printer?+
Yes. Universal printing lets you print from your hosted Lacerte session to any printer on your local network, the same as a local install.
Does hosting satisfy the FTC Safeguards Rule’s WISP requirement?+
Hosting doesn’t replace your Written Information Security Plan — you still need to write and maintain one — but it gives you concrete, auditable infrastructure controls (encryption, MFA, access logging, SOC 2 Type 2 documentation) to reference in it, instead of describing an office PC’s security after the fact.
Does the FTC Safeguards Rule actually apply to a small tax practice?+
Yes. The rule applies to any business that handles consumer financial data as part of tax preparation, regardless of firm size — there’s no small-firm exemption.
Can I see proof of your certifications before switching?+
Yes. Ask for a copy of our SOC 2 Type 2 report before signing anything — a legitimate provider will share it without hesitation. We’ll also explain which other certifications apply at the data-center facility level, so you know exactly what’s ours directly and what isn’t.
